| Monthly Conferences and Field Trips At our monthly conferences we invite distinguished speakers who are experts in a subject of interest to our membership. Recent speakers have been Dr. Ricardo Alegría on the influence of our natural history, Dr. Robert Altschuler on his book Hijos de las estrellas ("Children of the Stars"), Arch. Javier Blanco on the programs of the Conservation Trust of P.R., Dr. Frank Wadsworth on Puerto Ricos forests and Planner Martha Bravo on the Paseos Lineales Program ("Green Ways"). Each of the monthly conferences is followed by a related field trip. We visited the Museum of the Americas, the Arecibo Observatory, the Río Encantado and La Esperanza properties of the Conservation Trust, the dwarf forest at Pico del Este in the Caribbean National Forest and the Paseo Lineal Piñones . Forthcoming conferences will be on iguanas, underwater exploration, cactuses, exotic fruits and a presentation by the Secretary of Natural Resources on the problem of contamination and exhaustion of our underwater aquifers. Related field trips are also planned for each conference. The monthly conference is held at 8:00 p.m. on the last Friday of each month (with some exceptions), at Room 001, Womens Residence of Sacred Heart University in Santurce. The field trip is generally on the following Sunday. Arrangements are previously announced on ECOS. |
